Does your drive support DMA? Did you enable it?

Many people do cd recording to ATAPI in PIO mode. While this is OK up to 12x,
it will break either with 16x + or with DVD writers in 2x mode.

On Solaris x86, I have no problem to write 2x DVD-R (~ 2800 kb/s) with very
low CPU load.
