Were you here when Mike D started running HTML emails with a banner in them?
Do you recall the flack that he caught for that attempt to generate revenue
from some of the members of the list?

The sad fact is that the statement, "no good deed goes unpunished" strikes
very close to home.  When those ads first started showing up some people
left quietly and others made a lot of noise as they left.  The idea of
charging for the HoF lists has been brought up before and each time it has
gone over like a lead balloon.

If we did some simple math the fact that $1 from every subscriber to the
list as a *donation* (not membership, not fee more along the lines of a PBS
member) would probably put Mike D's paypal account into four or five digit
territory (not sure what the number of subscribers is).

The problem with this is that someone would need to organize it and keep the
momentum going on it for at least a month.  That should provide ample time
for anyone who is willing to donate whatever they want to.

Then again, it would also help if the little text link "Donations" at the
bottom of the HoF site would need to get a *tad* more light... at least a
mirror link at the top of the page.
