You are assuming that a person opposing gay marriage is concerned with their own rights, and this is most likely not true. If allowing marriage to encompass all sorts of "fringe" groups in the eyes of a married man and woman somehow dilutes the institution they are a part of, then i can see how they would most CERTAINLY see this as having an affect on them.

Whether they are right or wrong is the crux of the debate, but to say it has no affect on currently married men and women is just not true.
