Speaking as an immigrant to the US, I see that there is a lot to be proud
of. Respect for education at all levels - k-12 undergraduate and graduate
studies, respect for differences of opinions and tolerance of differences
are just three things that come to mind. Remember this country (the United
States) has been at the forefront of human rights for most of the 20th
century, not like some countries, such as Australia, that has until recently
espouses a very racist immigration policy, and an active campaign against
its own indigenous peoples that was far more extreme that what the US has
done.
