I used to want a really japanese-influenced place, but when I was
younger and started decorating that way I found that I wasn't
comfortable maintaining the proper level of austerity and cleanliness
to get the real effect.

I still like it aesthetically, but I've tried to eschew most
affectations and just relax at home. So now I've got a comfortable mix
of modern casual sofa and chairs with prairie style cherry coffee
table and entertainment center and shelves.

We're still gradually buying pieces, but we don't have a real plan for
any of it. We need more bookshelves though. And frames to hang
pictures. The frames will be simple, not too ornate. And I need a tall
vase with decorative grass or something for this one spot in the
living room.
