Our country is heading for a confrontation between religion and
government and Mr. Bush's reelection has given those that want this
confrotation legitimacy.

Mr. Bush won the election as a "transformational" leader rather than
"transactional" one. That is he said, "vote for me, not because of
what I've done, but because of what I believe." This is different
from a transactional candidate, such as Mr. Kerry, who favors
negotiation on each issue.

This is why logic-based decision makers are so angry with Mr. Bush's
election - they think he's not presented any type of logical structure
from which to make decisions, only an emotional one.

An ideological President empowers other ideological purveyors to speak
out and challenge the government on "values" since that's the platform
the transformational leader won on. They feel his victory validates
their feeling that their moral choices should be law.

In this way, America's legal environment is going to be challenged by
those who think religious values should be generic values and,
therefore, law.

Gay marriage, for example, is one such issue. One might argue the
core value is basic human rights and therefore it should be legal.
Another might argue that it violates Christian values and so it should
be illegal.

Mr. Bush, for his part, will be under pressure to deliver on his moral
agenda, and that includes on Gay Marriage.

So yes, I think Mr. Bush's election is a harbinger of a deterioration
of liberties.
