Not really, my wife (then fianc�) went down to the county clerk and filled
out a sheet of paper then had somebody sign it that is allowed to perform
marriages.

My point is that two people can be married, but the state not recognize it.
If their religion allows it, and the ceremony is performed, then they are
married in the eyes of their god.

Look at religion and divorce. I've known people that got the paper filed and
are legally divorced, but in the eyes of their church, they are still
married because the church wouldn't agree with it.

There are two separate things here, your civil agreement, and your religious
one. You can have both, or you can have one or the other.

My wife and I have both. I know some people that just have the civil, and I
know some people that have just the religious.
