We still don't know enough about this and news reports are great about repeating only the one glib answer (often out of context). Basically from everything I've seen it's still impossible to really judge anybody involved or their actions. I'll just still say that having been in situations like this I understand how they can escalate and how this could have happened such that nobody is really at fault (including the mother). I say the last simply because I've seen many mothers, often uneducated, that channel their love and hopes for a child into a blinding loyalty to the child. Many, especially young, mothers pin a lot of their own hopes and dream on a child; their guilt causes them to idealize the child. The child is never at fault. The child is always targeted, persecuted and wrongfully accused. The child is misunderstood. It can be really difficult to deal with people like that but it can also be worth it. They really do care about their children so if you can convince them that something needs to be done they often fly into it with everything they have.
