In NY many of the top schools are public and are in LI and Westchester, very expensive neighborhoods but you can find cheap homes on the borders. I didn't say all private schools were in the middle, I said the Catholic ones. Much better then the low-end schools but not as good as the high-end. The pay for teachers is much lower than in the public schools and no qualifications necessary. Their advantage is they can pick and choose the students.
