I agree that in a vacuum smoky air is worse for you than purified air
but we're talking about reality.  Danger is part of all of the
environments most low wage workers can work in:

1.) Dusty: Anywhere in the south, grain silos, mines, factories, etc.
2.) Dangerous: working next to ovens, heavy machinery, construction
3.) Deadly: hospitals, giving blood, giving plasma, etc.

All of these jobs come with hazards that the applicant accepts as part
of the job.
