To continue a short discussion on cf-talk...

We installed a bayesian spam filter on our mail servers about 2-3 months
ago. We officially "started" the filter on mailboxes on June 1, 2005.
The product is GFI's MailEssentials.

IMO, it hasn't done shit. It keeps marking my good mail and allowing
all kinds of spam to get through.

Supposedly, you are able to "tell" it what is spam or not, just by
dragging good mail from the Bayesian folder to the Inbox and spam from
the Inbox to the Bayesian folder.

Well, that doesn't work. The *only* way I see it working is that is
bases valid mail off of recipients to which I send. For example, I'm
subscribed to a mailing list that I really only read. Most of those
messages are marked as spam.

But, this list is never marked as spam since I contribute, to whatever
extent, by sending to this list.

But the real issue is all the people who are not smart enough to know
they own a zombie that has been infected by a criminal.

I think legislation should be created to require ISPs to look for this
activity and block computers on their network.

I also think a law should be enforced to publicly flog idiots who
actually give spammers reasons to continue, by reading the spam.
