I'm not sure how that follows... I also do not believe in life after death. Everything that happens once the light goes out is for the benefit of the living. So sentiments on gravestones are all for the living. But that basic fact doesn't make those sentiments either "good" or "bad" and doesn't predicate which of the living are the primary target of the message.
