I have yet to notice anything in the films that I would describe as talent, with the exception of some acting and some special-effects skill (mostly CGI). Allan Rickman in particular (I can't recall ever seeing what I would describe as a poor performance from him). I haven't cared for either of the guys playing Dumbledoor (or the character). And somebody really should box up the guy playing the blond Slitherin and send him home... his performance SUUUUUUUUUCKS... As to the writing -- the plots are... piss-poor to mediocre in quality... As ideas go, the anagram with Tom Riddle is played out... The "mirror of desire" has been done before. The hero (Potter) and the villain (Voldemort) are walking Disneyisms. The creatures are mostly legendary, so it's not really an avenue for her to demonstrate "inventiveness". The concept of a school for witches/wizards, etc. has been done (not necessarily played out, but certainly not inventive). The characters are largely walking cliches (particularly Dumbledoor... who's a Disneyism as well -- Rickman's is also cliche, although it's less bothersome because I like the cliche and the actor plays it well). All the "cutesie" things like platform 9-2/3rds, the night buss, the "whomping willow" etc. are ... well... expected if not old ideas. So... from where I sit, the score looks like: Hackneyed retellings of tired ideas 1 Inventiveness 0 Perhaps the actual writing itself (sentence structure, word-selection -- "poeticness") is better, although if 10 yr olds are reading it, I doubt it. s. isaac dealey 954.522.6080 new epoch : isn't it time for a change? add features without fixtures with the onTap open source framework http://www.fusiontap.com http://coldfusion.sys-con.com/author/4806Dealey.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:165454 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
