Not all diabetics require insulin right? I'd always heard that regulating sugar 
up or down was a treatment for milder cases -- so, if you knew your blood sugar 
was low you'd suck down a Jolly Rancher or a sugar cube. :)

Regulating diet, particularly starches and sugars to reduce them can be a 
treatment for mild adult onset diabetics.  The need to take sugar as a 
treatment for a case of "insulin reaction"; basically too much insulin in the 
system causing too much sugar to be removed so that the nervous system does not 
function well.
