No doubt about it... he was being an asshole.  However, while unfortunate, it's 
part of the job.  While in university I worked 4 years in retail... and I've 
been yelled at, had things thrown at me and been threatened --over things that 
weren't at all my fault.

Grab a bottle of wine and some of your favourite takeout on your way home... 
sounds like your wife is having a lousy day at work.
