He was also quite rich, had a very savvy defendant, a very good defense team, had a semi competent prosecution team, had a judge with delusions of celebrity, a very very good pr team working for him and last but not least a lot of support in the media itself. Somewhat different from a semi ignorant kid.
Don't get me wrong, what John Walker did was wrong, and for his crimes he should be jailed. However I am seeing Ashcroft and the other administrations reactionaries making this kid a scapegoat.
