Presumably mandatory conscription should have some purpose, rather than simply being indiscriminately applied because some people have some fuzzy idea that it would be better for everyone. A person who resents it isn't likely to benefit from it, not merely for any psychological benefit, but the effect of resenting it will cancel out other potential benefits as well. If the individuals don't benefit, then the country doesn't benefit.
You can resent people burning the flag all you want, doesn't change the fact that you benefited from service. And you can want others to benefit from service all you want, but nothing you do will make them (or the country) benefit from it if they don't want it, just like banning abortion and forcing women to have babies didn't help one communist country, which was also ostensibly done for the betterment of their country. So the answer to "who cares" is anybody who dislikes the government wasting money. > Who cares if they resent it? > I resent people burning, flying upside down, and throwing > my flag in the > garbage? > Jebus bud. > -- > Timothy Heald > Analyst, Architect, Developer > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > W: 202-228-8372 > C: 703-300-3911 > -----Original Message----- > From: S.
