To your, they're-hiding-in-the-population point - that's what guerrillas do! That why the US shouldn't have invaded Iraq - one US general estimated that only 5% of militants are Al Quaeda with the balance being Iraqis. AND THE US IS ONE THE GROUND WITH 150,000 TROOPS! Do you see us closer to "winning"? Do you think Israel, who just voted NOT to invade can do better? No. How many more times does this lesson of warfare need to be proven? There's only 3 time tested tactics: 1.) Wipe out everybody or some and threaten to wipe out the rest. Ref WWII 2.) Win the hearts and minds of the local population. Ref. Northern Ireland. 3.) Lose. Ref Vietnam. The mistake the Vulcans, with Bush as leader, have made is to be so arrogant as to think smart bombs can win an urban war. They can't, they aren't, they won't.
