I would try 5 to 7 sets of 10 reps at a lighter weight.  When I am in a in a
fat cutting stage, I do 10 sets of 10 at a light weight.

For bulking, I do about 3 to 4 sets of 6 to 8 reps at a heavy weight.

Since you just started, you are going to find that everybody does it
different.  Read up, ask those that work out, and experiment.  What works
for one person, does not work for another.

Just remember, good form and do not rush it.

Also, if you are not eating correctly, it does not matter what you are doing
in the gym.  It will go to waste.
