Maybe you're doing something wrong.
I remember way back when I practically lived in the gym a lot of
meatheads were doing burnouts. 10 reps increase weight, 8 reps ...
until you get to just one.
It didn't make them much stronger but it made them balloon out nearly
overnight. Something to do with extra blood staying in the muscle, but
it goes away after a few days.
