maybe I'm just playing the naive here. I have no clue what it takes to insure a family of 4 so please just look at the following and tell me what I'm missing.
I'm single, I get heath care though my employer for actually nothing out of pocket, (small company too). Maybe I hook up with a girl and she also gets healthcare paid through the company.. Well looks good so far. lets have a kid. Bam, you need to get the family plan. I don't believe you can insure one kid without "family" plan, this might be an additional 200 to 400 + out of pocket each month. Maybe more, you were both struggling making 40k a year each as it was. now what? While I'm not sure government needs to pick up the slack here. I'm sure drug and insurance companies lobby harder than most organizations on the planet for government to see it their way. I'd help flip the bill for the little guy any day over big business. Before you say they shouldn't pay for health coverage of children maybe you should take a look at the other ways government spends money. Like sending congressmen and seniors to Iraq. What's that prove again. Their one or two week visit could provide enough health coverage for a small nation!
