I'm not sure of my opinion here. I agree that 82,000 seems a bit high. I will note though that at 62k income total and no insurance it has become a leave-your-job kind of issue for me. I am paying for my own prescriptions and medical equipment rental but I am in big trouble if I need to go to the ER. When I was hospitalized with that flesh-eating bacteria thing, the hospital bill was $17,000 and that was at a University Hospital and did not include the actual surgery.
Ditto the kids -- I am pretty sure I make too much for the current CHIP plan and we're ok at the moment, but in deep trouble if there are any injuries.
