I'd say compared to any major metropolitan area! The only real
traffic jams occur in the morning on I-40 west from Gorman Street to
the Wade Avenue split, due to the fact that I-40 shrinks to 2 lanes in
each direction between US1/64 and the Wade Avenue split. It's
ridiculous.

The same problem occurs on I-40 eastbound in the afternoon, with
backups pretty typical from Aviation Parkway to the wade avenue split.

The only other time there's ever any significant traffic problems is
when there are accidents (most often on the I-440 beltline, or the
Durham Freeway)

I live in Apex and work in Durham, and I experience no traffic
problems *EVER* because I go up Highway 751 into Durham and almost
never get on any of the expressways. The worst part of my commute is
going by Jordan High School at 7:30am.
