There are others. I subscribe to the Army Times and a couple of months ago there were stories about phony soldiers, and soldiers who never stepped foot in theater but wore the medals to show they did and passed themselves off as heroes. This has been happening since Vietnam and probably even further back, I am not sure. I know for a fact though that this has been happening since Vietnam. In fact, there is a US Senator who tried passing himself off as a war hero flying combat sorties in Vietnam, but when someone started doing a little digging, he suddenly changed course and admitted that he was never there. His name is Senator Harkin. The FBI has a taskforce whose sole purpose is to dig up these posers, losers, idiots, whatever you want to call them, and prosecute them (this is a federal offense, just like if I put on officers rank and passed my self off as an officer instead of what I really am, which is an NCO.)
I am sure this will happen in future wars. -----Original Message----- From: Dana [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, October 14, 2007 5:17 PM To: CF-Community Subject: Re: while I am here I'll take a closer look at these later but a fast once over gives me this -- that third link is talking about the 44-day dude. He is also front and center in the first one, but of the various other cases cited there, none made political statements; all were simply self-aggrandizing. Ditto all the people in your second link, which actually characterizes them as losers with poor self-esteem. I still think though, that even someone who never got further than stateside or Okinawa at least signed up, as opposed to claiming a pimple on the ass.... But oh let's say these women: http://www.alibi.com/index.php?story=12550&scn=news Are they phony Blue Star mothers? What about this guy: http://www.alibi.com/index.php?story=8301&scn=news Is he a phony soldier? The people this story mentions: http://www.alibi.com/index.php?story=10575&scn=feature http://www.alibi.com/index.php?story=11060&scn=news http://www.alibi.com/index.php?story=10661&scn=news are they phony soldiers too? Geez. I didn't even find the story I was looking for about National Guardmen (in Iraq) being force to strip to prove they didn't have gang tattoos. I think the people who worry about Jesse what's his name are doing exactly what the bushies want -- keeping their mind occupied with other things than the central question: what exactly is all of this supposed to be in aid of. What is this very heavy price being paid for? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| ColdFusion 8 - Build next generation apps today, with easy PDF and Ajax features - download now http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/coldfusion/cf8_beta_whatsnew_052907.pdf Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:244249 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
