There are a handful of creationist theories, some of which have been mentioned on this list. The major dividing line seems to be over long or short creation "Days" (in reference to the six days of creation in Genesis).
The "Long Day" folks do have a fairly good testable model that has made accurate predictions about recent scientific discoveries. http://www.reasons.org/resources/apologetics/testablecreationsummary.html There is a fair amount of rhetoric on both sides of this debate. The debate has far less to do with our educational system than it does with how we want to operate as a society. There is a fair amount of political pressure for evolution to be true rather than false -- unfortunately, that's allowed scientists to shroud weaknesses of the evolutionary theory. Unfortunate for science, that is. There is more grant money and media coverage available to those who can do a study that confirms what the general population already believes than there is to do a study and come up with an evolutionary weakness. When a society tells its scientists: "This is not allowed to be true", it will financially limit the type of research than can be done and we set ourselves up for self-deception. It was wrong when it was done by Christians before the Scopes trial, and it is wrong when done by evolutionists afterwards. If we really believe in our position on the evolution/creation debate, we have nothing to be afraid of from new scientific discoveries. >I am saying that any theory intended to replace evolutionary theory must, >repeat MUST, fit the same criteria as any scientific theory. Creationism >doesn't. It is not testable, it cannot be falsifiable, it does not provide a >better explanation of the data, nor does it provide any degree of >predictiveness. Therefore it is useless. All in all its just another attempt >to create a state sponsored religion. -- Kent Bulmer Application Developer BMG Consultants Inc.
