Well, I know a little bit about hunting them around here. I wouldn't have the first clue about how to rate different parts of the country. I do know that the rest of country tends to move along with the season as I was talking about. So, down south where the warm weather comes early, the morels will start coming up earlier in the season. Conversely, in the northern states, where the warm weather comes much later, you can find morels much later into the season....even through august. All you really need is: wet + warm + forest detritus. We look for moderate to heavy wooded areas with a small creek or stream. The key is finding one....if you find one, there are probably more, and they will return to that general spot every year. The place we found them again this year, we've found them there every year for the past few. Also, is Kansas City known for any other unique or unusually good stuff? I can't really think of a "must see" thing here in KC. Naturally, I think our BBQ is a cut above the rest.
