I don't think I'm getting across. If I were an unscrupulous man and someone were suing me for $800, it wouldn't matter if there was a judgment against me. Hell, I'd even give the guy a sworn affidavit that I owed him the money and a videotape of me saying as much. Then I'd just sit back and relax, because nothing would ever happen. Who's going to touch me? A collection agency? Nope, it's not worth their time for what they'd get out of it. My sister owns one, and the only time they handle a small amount is when it's part of a large monthly-recurring client's workload totaling a large overall amount with a reasonably high average per deadbeat. And I would just laugh at your attorney's letter and wipe my ass with it (if it were that nice Crane's 100% rag content watermarked bond), because what's he going to do? His expenses are higher than the collection agency's for such things that he's not set up to regularly do (collections), and his take is a lower percentage for small amounts like that. Not only that, if you kept on calling or writing or emailing me, I would demand that you cease and desist and instead take me to court, and if you didn't then I would (get this now!) turn around and successfully (because of a clearly-documented timeline with all supporting documentation) sue you for harassment! I promise you that the real world of law is *VERY* different from the way most laypeople think it works. It's like you think it's a wombat, but it's actually a submarine. That much different, really. It's not even there to protect you, which is another absurdity I've heard people claim. Know when to fold 'em.
