It's plenty clean - see Scott's ref below - and it's WAY cleaner than the coal that would power electric cars. As to Wind and hydro, they just haven't proven to generate enough consistent power yet. Places close to a river could use hydro and I think wind has some promise but I doubt it'll ever get to the point where they can power houses, industry, and cars. I'm not against electric anything.
