Gruss, I don't know if you remember or not, but I drove a 3/4 diesel that regularly burned bio diesel. I'm all for it compared to petro diesel, but it's still not the best thing to be burning.
From the biodiesel.org site: Of the major exhaust pollutants, both unburned hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides are ozone or smog forming precursors. The use of biodiesel results in a substantial reduction of unburned hydrocarbons. Emissions of nitrogen oxides are either slightly reduced or slightly increased depending on the duty cycle of the engine and testing methods used. Now, this is the first time I've ever heard that the nox emissions were lower because in Texas they were thinking of banning it in some areas because of the potential of smog forming. I think you're right about solar and hydro. They can't produce enough power right now. That's why we need to investigate more efficient systems. We shouldn't be pumping more money into another "dead end" solution as BioD......Let's go after truly renewable sources.
