It's only IE, I don't have any need to run Novel protocols, and I'm clean virus/spyware wise. I've done several release/renews. This is a new problem, I may still punt and reload the OS

Some other things to think about: is there anything in add/remove programs that you don't recognize? Have you been playing on Kazaa? Try running Ad-Aware and Spybot. Antivirus programs are notoriously neurotic. Does the problem go away if you disable yours? try an ipconfig release and renew I may have another lightbulb moment later.
