That was the behavior I was seeing with the proxy issue.  It may not be the
proxy, but it might be something similar: the core problem was that when the
browser opened it was looking for a site that didn't exist/couldn't reach
and was forced to wait until the request timed out to continue.  The browser
worked fine from then on.

Perhaps setting up a trace on port 80 or logging your DNS lookups?  Can your
router do that (I use a custom firmware on my Linksys that allows for that)?

Also, just a thought, but anything in the event viewer?
