One of the things I realized several years ago was that just because you CAN throw a web site together or configure an e-commerce application for someone, doesn't mean you should (or are obligated to). Unless the person asking for the work has done their research and would otherwise be willing to pay someone to do it (even if they don't actually have the money, the point is that they would be willing to spend it if they did), you're probably doing them a disservice and enabling them to continue with a poor decision. Look at it this way, if they were to go to a bank and ask for the financing to build the web site, would they get it? Don't lose your objectivity just because it's family.
