Oh BS, I worked at Wal-Mart as an overnight shipping and receiving guy for a year in Maine, my wife worked there even longer doing cashier then csm then management. You can make a very real, very profitable career there if you are a hard worker. They pay more than minimum wage and it was still a better retail job than any others that I had then.
These jobs keep people off welfare and productive. Unions are a large part of whats wrong in America today. Salaries have been driven higher and higher, driving manufacturing and basic service jobs overseas. Hell unions had a lot to do with this minimum wage increase, the problem is, minimum wage increases have always led to the lowest wage earners losing their jobs and hours, and the only reason that unions cared about the wage increase was because many of their contracts are based of of the federal minimum wage. Say if you're if you're a widget maker who makes 5 times minimum wage, you just got a $3.50 an hour raise. Thats going to be passed on to the consumer, it's going to cause less purchases.
