thing is that pharma is very large and very profitable. Doctors are literally 
deluged by sales people to prescribe this stuff. Moreover doctors make less by 
making a referral to a psychologist than they do making a prescription. There 
is also the attitude that many doctors have towards psychology - there's not a 
lot of respect for the profession. Which is unfortunate since PhD level 
clinical psychologists from APA approved programs have more training in their 
area than do most physicians in their specialty.

What I find irritating in general about this is that the results are clear, CT 
or REBT have been shown to be as effective as prescribing medication for 
depression. yet these studies are dismissed or ignored, even though in terms of 
the quality of these studies they're far superior to what is typically found in 
most medical journals.
