thing is that pharma is very large and very profitable. Doctors are literally deluged by sales people to prescribe this stuff. Moreover doctors make less by making a referral to a psychologist than they do making a prescription. There is also the attitude that many doctors have towards psychology - there's not a lot of respect for the profession. Which is unfortunate since PhD level clinical psychologists from APA approved programs have more training in their area than do most physicians in their specialty.
