That's not true at all. Administrative costs in Medicare, for
instance, are significantly lower than in the private sector. Medicare
reports their administrative overhead as 2%. Some people argue there
are hidden factors not included in that and come up with a figure
closer to 6%. Private insurance generally runs closer to 15 to 20%.

As for technology advances, it depends on what sort of technology you
are talking about. Medical technology, like MRI's and such, there is
certainly nothing that the government or private insurance can really
do. But there are areas where government involvement in technology
could reduce costs, like standards for data interoperability,
centralized preauthorizations and claims submissions, etc.

And I don't honestly know what you meant by preventative care through
measures & action, so I can't address the issue.

I'm not saying that the government is the answer to all the problems.
It may not be the answer to even a majority of the problems. There is
still a lot to figure out. Hell, I write medical software for a
living. I like private industry involvement in healthcare. But I think
that healthcare is an area where government involvement could
substantially improve the existing system if done properly.
