I apologize if I implied it was you saying that specifically. Christian doctrine says that the only way to be saved is though Jesus. It was restated and upheld by a Vatican council recently. When someone says things like damned and hell, it sets off a rejection of that idea. But again, this may be one of those things that is taken out of context from what Jesus said. That's one of the main problems. All we have are the words of others on him, not his own. And the words of others contradict in places.
