If you asked your company to let you work 40% less for the same amount of
pay, what would they say? Why should it be any different for them?
Honestly, I've been in this situation twice. Both times I've left for
another position within one month of the pay cut.

Don't sell yourself short. This is business - they're not your friends.
They're the providers of a paycheck. There are others like them. Find one
before it's too late.

Well, I'm looking around and keeping my options open, just so I don't get
caught with no options if something really terrible happens. I'm not
planning on leaving just yet. This is, probably, just a temporary thing.
The company has a good future and is pretty stable (for the last 7 years
they've been a "cash only" business with 0 debt. We are just going through
a rough spot because some of the state governments are being asses (long
story). We expect to get a cash infusion from a VC to get us by until we
get this government thing straightened out. The 40% is company wide. They
are asking everyone to bite the bullet and give some up for the company so
they don't have to let anyone go .. or as few people as possible. The VPs
aren't getting paid at all.

I'm the lead developer, so my job isn't going to be in jeapordy anytime
soon. I think they will pull through and I have faith in the senior
management, so I'm going to stick with them for a while. I can afford to
live on this without dipping in to savings for a month or 3. Hey, at least
I still have a job and still have great insurance! My 60% paycheck is still
better than an unemployment check ;)

Still, if anyone hears of anything around the NC/SC area .... :)

Todd
