I have known quite a lot of cops over the years and I can tell you that most, if not all, could care less about the 'bad guy' coming out of a bad situation unharmed. They care about getting themselves, their fellow cops and innocent people out of bad situations unharmed. The 'bad guys' would be last on their list of people to care about when the shit hits the fan.
