I am not saying that they would purposely harm the bad guys, but if other people are invovled in the situation, their safety would take priority over that of the bad guys.
When I worked as a medic I had the philosophy that I am the most important person on any call. That is not to say I never put myself in a potetially deangerous situation to help people, but if the shit hit the fan, I would be concerned about Me, then my partner and then the patient.
