And as screwed up as the American health care system is, it is still better
than what you can find in other countries. I guess it means don't get sick
overseas.
I work in the health care system now. My daughter had a serious illness
that took 4 years of treatment to address. I have seen every kind of
mistake that can be made. It is frightening. From the work and patient
end, it is amazing how disorganized the medical field is.

I was talking to a friend today about the screwed up state of health care
and the looming threat of socialized medicine. We got on the issue of
insurance. Insurance is really screwed up.

Different companies don't cover expenses that others do. Medicare or
Medicaid actually covered some treatments for other patients that my
daughter needed and that my insurance did not cover. It irritated me to no
end no that my tax dollars were paying for a treatment for others and that
my daughter needed yet my insurance would not pay for. Insurance companies
do everything in there power to keep from paying while trying to convince
you how much you need them.

It made me wonder if there is a baseline for what insurance companies have
to cover? Do they build up from this baseline to develop there own plans?
Why isn't there a better system of choice for workers? Instead of employers
paying for insurance, would the cost for individual insurance put in an
escrow account that was paid to each employee's chosen insurance company
give better results? As it stands now, there is usually no competition in
insurance. Your company offers one or two choices and that's it.

Enough rambling.

Scott, hope your son gets well soon.
