I think they are, on most roads cars travel around 35 Mph, much faster than 
your average biker. Bike are much less visible, and in my experience the 
riders pay less attention the their surroundings than they should.

Not entirely, you cannot use a bike on Interstates or parkways. Also here 
there are many roads where you are not allowed to use a bike. On four lane 
roads where people usually drive as high as 65 Mph, a bike is a danger to 
everybody, curves and hills can hide a bike and cause a major accident.

I realize the laws allow bikes to be there, just as they allow a horse 
drawn carriage to be there, I disagree with that, I think to be able to use 
the road you must have a licence and pay a reasonable tax, just my opnion.
