And actually, if it weren't for other factors, this is exactly what
we'd have in America and it would work fine.

The problem is the psychology created by:

(1.) The employer-based insurance benefits.  It's created a
I-go-to-the-doctor-and-someone-else-pays psychology.  Ever see a
traveling salesman driving a crappy car?  Why not?  Some else is
paying.

(2.) God Complex.  In polls people LOVE their doctors but HATE their
mechanics.  Aren't they the same job?  Here's a poll where 50%
completely trust their doctors but only 12% completely trust their
mechanics. (a little data for Judah)

(3.) Point of Understanding.  With cars, since we designed 'em, we
understand them.  There's new technology, but it's fairly linear.
With biology we come from a point of ignorance thus technology is
always growing to gather more data.
