As for this bill, I don't have an opinion yet. I'll wait and read it. On the bright side, I did recently finish reading the definition of "Meaningful Use" for EMR's that came out late last month. It is really a breath a fresh air. I was surprised that Congress handed over part of the power to NIST as opposed to just using CCHIT, especially since Leavitt (former head of HHS) is chairman of CCHIT. And NIST did a good job of focusing on technology as a means to an end instead of just something to throw money at. As a result CHIT and HITSP revamped their structures and provided new paths to certification that were quite refreshing. If this bill shows the initiative and willingness to break from tradition that the final rules coming out of the HITECH act, then it may be a significant step forward.
