Mmmm I agree with Vivec; Olympic visitors would be a security nightmare.

I mean if you wanted to get into the US to do some mayhem, what a
perfect opportunity to slip in.

Nope, my guess is that the US voluntarily pulled out, just not publicly.

Further, given how Chicago is to travel to/from today I can't imagine
how they'd cope with this.  There's just not any room.  They'd have to
rebuild whole parts of the city - which isn't a bad idea - but
probably not realistic.  I don't even see what their bid could've
been.
