Well for one, it is the Times that is reporting this. That aside, I have no problems with tough standards. There are many here in the US on expired visas and that has to stop. Not sure how we are going to do this but it has to stop. I have no problem with someone with a valid US visa visiting this country or even moving here if they so desire. I do have a problem with people coming here and overstaying their visit and not going through proper channels to extend their stay, be it a few days, weeks, months or indefinitely. When I was in the Philippines earlier this year, I asked the person I was visiting what could happen if I stayed longer than my stamp on my passport allowed, and she said I could end up in jail and/or banned from visiting again. So it seems that they have standards too. Go figure.
I am pretty sure that if we had won the bid to host the Olympics that everything would have been done to ensure that the visiting athletes and their entourage would have been made to feel welcome. This is not the first time we have hosted the Olympics in this country.
