I fail to see how cocaine smuggling is a threat to the US. If the US wanted to destroy the cartels all they would have to do is decriminalize drugs. They have effectively bought the Colombian government with tax payer money from the War on Drugs, which much like the rest of their wars is simply a way to transfer wealth from the consumer to the corporate overlords.
