Right, it's not your FAULT, but I would still say you were RESPONSIBLE
for
not taking proper precautions to prevent it's theft and unauthorized
use.
Those two words do not mean the same thing.

Sorry, someone who is unlawfully on my property takes something of mine
no matter where it is I ain't responsible. I can't control their
actions. Period. They broke the law, not me. You sound like the guy
who was breaking into a home and sued the homeowners because he fell
through their skylight. He wouldn't of been alive had he fell through
my skylight, but that is another story.

Maybe not legally, but if I would still hold you morally responsible for
not
taking better care to protect something so dangerous.

It's only dangerous if used improperly. Not that I am trying to say
that it is proper to handle firearms carelessly, I would never leave it
out. The point I am arguing is that if someone steals my gun, no matter
where it is, say I was cleaning it and left it out. It doesn't matter.
They had to #1 Tresspass, and number #2 steal my property. I am not
responsible, I didn't tell them to do it, they did it of their own
accord.
