Beth-

I don't think this is the *intended* purpose of our
prison system, but the de facto purpose of our prison
system seems to be to lock people up for a graduate
education in crime, and to let them network with a broad
cross-section of the criminal community.

This is based on the rate of recidivism.

What's the alternative? We sure don't have money for
education, how can we afford jobs, health care,
meaningful alternatives to flipping burgers??

Sounds like my budget - wonder where the heck all the
money went :-(
