Actually, and I'm no Buchanan fan, he does make some valid arguments. When we were
attacked on September 11, I remember hearing GW
Bush saying that we were attacked because these people hate our freedoms. I also
remember thinking about what a crock that was. We
were not attacked because these people hate our freedoms - that was a pathetic attempt
to keep us from examining our foreign
policies; from asking "why?"

I am convinced that our foreign policies brought terror to our shores, plain and
simple. Although I'm not in any way advocating
isolationism (and I really don't think that Buchanan is either), I think we really do
need to rethink things. For example, we are
in Saudi Arabia and that country is ruled in a way that is completely against our
stand on human rights. And, do we protest this
like we do to other nations? No, we don't. The next question is "why?" and the
answer is plain - we need oil. This lust for oil
is our biggest proverbial albatross. Our foreign policy is influenced tremendously by
this simple fact. What we really need is an
administration that has the foresight and the strength to change our domestic
dependence on foreign oil. We are the most advanced
nation on the planet and we should be investing more in lessening our dependence on
oil. It's time that our government pointed this
out plainly and did something about it.

Believe me, I'm as patriotic as anyone and I love my country but it's dead wrong to
make excuses as to why we were attacked -
reasons that make no sense.

Howie
