I didn't receive welfare but I did get a social security benefit based on the death of my father, who was shot one night while holding a gun on someone else. The benefit expired when I turned 18. So, it wasn't technically welfare, but it was government assistance. It was not enough to live a life of comfort but it did supplement the minimum wage jobs held by family members.
